pop quiz

Today we had a pop quiz on the slide shows we looked at yesterday. I got a 6/10 because someone threw my pencil across the room and I missed the first question. The question was easy, I got it wrong because I did not hear it and I was not allowed to look at it again because Mr.Schick said one time only. I was quiet mad for the rest of the day. After the quiz we went over the slide we looked at yesterday as a class and Mr.Schick told us how he almost became a priest.

Today Mr. Schick was not in class because he went to a debate thing. He left us to finish the power point he started yesterday on Jesus in Roman times. There were only a few slides left so it was not hard. Then we started a slide on Christianity during Charlemagne, this was about how Christianity came to the power it was during the middle ages. Most people were not in major empires after the Roman empire fell, they were living on manors. Manors were where one rich person lived with their families and had a little group of people outside that do anything from serving the rich to farming. This was how everyone lived around Europe, most people did not read or write and only worried about themselves not the group. The church took advantage or this by saying to the rich owners you need a church in your town for all of your people and you.

Jesus

Today we talked about Jesus and how he was depicted in early art. The way we see Jesus today with the long hair, blue eyes, and long beard is not completely accurate. He has more black hair, short hair and beard, tan, and brown eyes. We also talked about how the Romans blamed the Christians for everything that was going wrong in their empire the last 300 years. In the year 313 AD the roman empire officially recognized Christianity as a religion. This came after a kings wife who told him to pray to God before a battle in which he later won. after the battle he was a believer and wanted to find out more about the religion.

Medieval times

Today Mr. Schick was not at school so we read a few pages on Medieval times. I really enjoy learning about Medieval times and the Renaissance so I can't wait to start talking about it in class.

test look over

I got a 67 on the Rome test, that was way lower then I thought it was going to be. We went over the test and some of the questions I got wrong I was wondering why I put the answer I did when I knew the right answer. I will now have to work really hard to get my grade back up to where I want it.

Today we took a test on Rome, I think i did well but i was a little rushed because Mr. Schick came in late. I don't think I got an A on the test but I don't think I failed. Our next unit it Medieval times.

projects 2

Today we finished the presentations, there were about 3 groups left. Once we were done we talked a little bit about Rome and then did nothing else. We will start Rome tomorrow.

projects

Today we started sharing projects on Rome, our group did a rap about Julius Caesar. I think we did alright, it wasn't as good as others but it wasn't horrible. Other groups did projects on Punic wars, Julius Caesar, and bruits.  Tomorrow we finish all the projects.

Today we went over the test we took two weeks ago, I got an 84 which I am not to happy with because I made stupid mistakes. After we went over the test we started our Rome projects, my group is Justin and Colin. We are doing a rap battle between brutis and Caesar, I will be Caesar and Justin will be Brutis, at the end Justin will kill me. We are going for the ending of Caesars life when all the senates surrounded him and killed him.

Today we started a project on ancient Greece, our group has art. I have learned a lot of new things about Greek art, such as that most artists during the renaissance were influenced by the Greeks. I also learned that they did metal art, I had no idea that metal art is so old. I always thought metal art really started during the renaissance or even later than then.

test

today we took a test on ancient Greece. I knew most everything, I had a bit of trouble on the Iliad and the Odessy, I also had no idea what the Homeric question was. If I did I would have said no I do not think Homer was real because it is almost impossible to remember a story over 1000 lines long, but remembering two is non realistic.

review

today we went over the things that will be on the test tomorrow. The first few questions will be on the rivers and the civilizations associated with them. then it will be describing the geography of Greece, it is covered in mountains and only 20% of the land if farm able. I think I will do well on this test, I also need it because I will be illegible to play lacrosse if I don't.

5. Athens benefited because it helped their army grow stronger, they had more people in it because weapons and armor were made out of iron not bronze which was less expensive and stronger. They also used a new army strategy called the phalanx, this is when they have a group of men in a square and the people hold their spears out in front of them, the row behind them slightly higher and all the way up until they had a wall of spears.

Greek governments and army's

Today in class we learned more about the different people that ruled Greece throughout its time. We learned about Hippias who was a tyrant from 527 through 510 BC, during his rule, his brother died. His brother was killed by the aristocrats who Hippias had thrown out, because of this he became a harsh ruler. When he was thrown out and ostracized he went to the Persians and helped them attack Athens as a way of revenge. After Hippias there was two men who wanted to be the ruler, Isagoras and Cliesthenes.Isagoras had the support of the other aristocrats and from Sparta, Cliesthenes had the support of the people in Athens. Isagoras had became ruler and ostracized Cliesthenes, when he did this the people of Athens revolted for the first time ever against their ruler.

Greek rulers

Today we talked about the different forms of government used in ancient Greece. The forms of governments were oligarchy, parliament, tyrant, and aristocracy. The most common forms were Aristocracy and tyrant, this was because people that were "in the loop" for aristocracy became "outside the loop" they would alliance with Hoplites, when they did this and took over they usually became tyrants. We also talked about some different rulers and their laws.

class

today in class we went over what we learned about from the text book. we also talked about how all great civilizations started near or on a river. The reason they did this was because you need water for drinking, farming, transportation, and cleaning. we will most likely not have school Monday or Tuesday (:

ancient greece

Greece was a collection of separate lands where Greek speaking people lived.
 The Minoans had great power in the Mediterranean world.
Greece includes about 2000 islands.
The islands and peninsulas had a great impact of Greek lifestyles and culture.
rugged land made land travel very difficult during that time.
