Today we talked about the different forms of government used in ancient Greece. The forms of governments were oligarchy, parliament, tyrant, and aristocracy. The most common forms were Aristocracy and tyrant, this was because people that were "in the loop" for aristocracy became "outside the loop" they would alliance with Hoplites, when they did this and took over they usually became tyrants. We also talked about some different rulers and their laws.
Draco:
all Athens people are equal
death is the punishment for almost everything
debt slavery is okay
Solon:
outlaws debt slavery
everyone can speak at assemblies
any person can press charges against another
Cleisthenes:
allowed all citizens to submit laws
created counsel of 500
free adult males born in Athens that owned land were citizens
